The weather this entire week was absolutely brutal. Probably the worst possible time to be digging a foundation and laying block. Excavation started Monday and the footer was formed and poured Tuesday.
I headed to the island midweek after work but had to stop in Catawba on the way to pick up mortar. You can see the gray rain-filled sky in the background, this was Wednesday, May 1st.
Loading almost a ton of mortar on my truck |
Menards delivered all the block and pipe on Thursday morning. The rain would not stop. We were lucky to get all of this on ONE delivery.

Me and Tim installed the drain under the driveway along the street to the main drain.

This is the footer and mud situation end of day on Thursday. Still raining
Footer - done! |
Look at this muddy mess! This is with pumps running to remove water. Nasty.
Friday, Sam came back to the island to prepare the crawlspace with gravel and get the block moved into place for his crew to install the block walls.
Friday night Bonnie, Sophie and Neil came to Kelleys for the weekend. This is then standing where the crawlspace will be!
Saturday morning, Sam's crew got rolling quick. These guys layed almost 900 block in like 6 hours.

Crawlspace almost done |
Sunday morning, Bonnie volunteered to help with the rubberized foundation coating. We wrapped up for the weekend around 2pm. And yes, that is blue sky. The rain finally stopped!
My girl! |
Looking good |
Huge week of step 1 to get the foundation built. As usual, more to come soon!
